One of the best music biopics of recent years is among the movies on TV tonight

If you are a movie lover staying in this Saturday night, JOE’s got you covered.

Here are the best films airing on television this evening.

Rocketman – Channel 4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight chronicles the life of Elton John (played by an incredible Taron Egerton doing his own singing) from shy piano prodigy to international superstar.

Filled with thrilling musical sequences, spine-tingling music video-like flights of fantasy and of course, its subject’s legendary anthems, Rocketman will have you humming Elton John tunes for days after viewing.

The Blues Brothers – ITV 4 – 9pm

At the same time as Rocketman, another much loved musical is airing, this one starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

There’s Something About Mary – Comedy Central – 9pm

This smash-hit anarchic comedy centres on a man (Ben Stiller) who gets a chance to meet up with his dream girl from high school (Cameron Diaz), even though his date with her back then was a complete disaster.

The Truth – BBC Four – 9pm

Catherine Deneuve, Ethan Hawke and Juliette Binoche lead the cast of this family drama from acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.

War of the Worlds – Film Four – 9pm

Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of H.G. Wells’ legendary sci-fi novel starring Tom Cruise.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – RTÉ Two – 9.45pm

Tom Cruise stars again in this extremely watchable fifth entry of the Mission: Impossible series.

Bad Boys – Dave – 10pm

Cloverfield – Sky Showcase – 10.30pm

This tense-as-hell found-footage sci-fi horror centres on a group of friends who venture deep into the streets of New York on a rescue mission during a rampaging monster attack.

Last Man Standing – BBC Two – 10.45pm

Filmmaker Nick Broomfield examines the unsolved murders of hip-hop artists Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur.

Scarface – ITV 4 – 11.40pm

This iconic gangster flick from Brian De Palma sees Al Pacino play a determined Cuban immigrant in 80’s Miami who takes over a drug cartel and succumbs to greed.

The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil – BBC Two – 12.30am

A crime boss teams up with a cop to track down a serial killer in this excellent South Korean thriller that is worth staying up for.
