The cast features some great Irish actors.

At last, the weekend is upon us. As such, why not shake off the stresses of the past few days by checking out one of the great movies on TV tonight.

Below are JOE’s recommendations for this evening.

GoldenEye – ITV 4 – 9pm

James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) fights to prevent a rogue ex-MI6 agent (Sean Bean) from using a satellite weapon against London to cause a global financial meltdown.

The first in the series to star Brosnan as 007, GoldenEye is often cited as the actor’s best Bond film.

21 Jump Street – RTÉ Two – 9pm

A pair of underachieving cops (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.

This hilarious action-comedy reboots the popular 80’s TV series of the same name.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web – Film Four – 9pm

In the latest cinematic take on Stieg Larsson’s Millenium book series, young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (The Crown’s Claire Foy) finds herself caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.

While not as strong as David Fincher’s previous The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Foy makes a great Salander.

Daddy’s Home 2 – E4 – 9pm

Having finally gotten used to each other’s existence, Brad (Will Ferrell) and Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) must now deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays.

This sequel to the 2015 hit comedy adds John Lithgow and Mel Gibson to the mix.

Dunkirk – RTÉ One – 9.35pm

In our pick for this evening, Christopher Nolan depicts the Dunkirk evacuation of WWII through the perspectives of the land, sea and air.

By recounting the events of Dunkirk as essentially a tense-as-hell survival thriller and through its inventive narrative structure, Dunkirk truly is a war movie like no other.

Also, the entire ensemble cast – including our own Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy – is perfect.

Circle of Friends – Virgin Media One – 10.05 pm

Three women, who’ve been friends since childhood, meet at university in Dublin in 1957 where student and boyfriend life begins.

Chris O’Donnell and Minnie Driver star in this adaptation of a Maeve Binchy novel.

The Taking of Pelham 123 – RTÉ One – 11.30pm

In New York, armed men hijack a subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers.

Starring Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw, this acclaimed 1974 crime thriller was remade in 2009 with Denzel Washington.
