Cillian Murphy headlines one of 2023’s biggest and most-anticipated movies.

This week in the States (and mid-August over here), anyone who goes to see Nope in IMAX cinemas will likely be greeted with the first teaser trailer for Oppenheimer.

Directed by Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk, The Dark Knight), the movie will tell the true story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project and his contributions that led to the creation of the atomic bomb, an invention which essentially changed the course of human history.

The movie also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, Kenneth Branagh, Jason Clarke, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Quaid and Florence Pugh amongst many more.

Nolan is also reteaming with Hoyte van Hoytema, the cinematographer of Interstellar, Dunkirk and Tenet, as well as composer Ludwig Göransson, who provided the score for Tenet, and early word is that this could be both a massive box office hit and a major awards contender next year.

While we’ve got some time on this side of the Atlantic before we get ours eyes on the finished film, Universal has released an official first look via their Oppenheimer website, which cleverly builds in a countdown clock to the exact second that the movie is released in cinemas.

Oppenheimer is released in cinemas on 21 July 2023.
