The Oscar nominations have just been announced, and we have some very good news

Tony Cuddihy

The Academy Award nominations have been announced, and Ruth Negga has been nominated in the Best Actress category.

Ruth Negga has received her first ever Academy Award nomination for her role in Loving.

The Irish-Ethiopian actress rose to prominence playing Rosie in Love/Hate and can now dream of taking home an Oscar for her role opposite Joel Edgerton in the critically-acclaimed historical drama.

Negga will go up against Isabelle Huppert, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep in the Best Actress category.

Nine films have been nominated for Best Picture, with Manchester by the Sea, La La Land and Moonlight all considered the favourites for the top honour.

La La La land equalled the record for the most Oscar nominations in history at 14, also including Ryan Gosling for Best Actor.

Here are the nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

Here are the nominations for Best Directing.

And, in no particular order, here are the nominations for the rest of the 2017 Oscars.
