Birdman, Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel all received multiple Oscar nominations on Thursday afternoon.
Eight films were nominated for Best Picture, but the big loser in the main category was Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, despite the fact that Miller was nominated as Best Director.
Steve Carell will contest the Best Actor category with Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game).
Reese Witherspoon will be favourite for Best Actress for her role in Wild, although there was no nod for Jennifer Aniston for her role in Cake.
