Peaky Blinders creator confirms that at least two more seasons are on the way

Peaky Blinders Season 5

The new season is arriving soon and we’re getting even more.

Throughout the history of Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby has consistently been a man of his word.

Granted, his actions have usually landed those closest to him in deep trouble – the finale of Season 3 saw most of his family locked away in prison – but the leader of the Shelby gang is true to his word and as we all know, Tommy always has a plan.

So far, he has never let the Shelby family down.

If Tommy says it, he means it and the same can be said for the show’s creator, Steven Knight.

With Season 5 set for imminent release, the world premiere of the superb drama took place in Birmingham last night and Knight reaffirmed his previous statement that the gangster drama will keep on going for even more seasons.

When asked about the show’s success, Knight said: “It’s a very precious thing and we’re keeping it going for another two series”.

The director of Locke also said that most of Season 6 and all of Season 7 will be filmed in Birmingham.

While the show already had a rabid and loyal fanbase, its addition to the Netflix library has been one of the main factors which has seen its popularity grow in recent seasons. Further proof of this is the fact that Season 5 will now be broadcast on BBC1 as opposed to BBC2.

While no official premiere date for Season 5 has been announced yet, we expect it to be imminent. Irish director Anthony Byrne is currently putting the finishing touches on the new episodes and it was recently announced that Anna Calvi has written the musical score for the upcoming season.

In terms of the plot, we’re told that the new season will be set in the aftermath of the Wall Street Crash where “opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.”

Knight has also spoken about how the new season will deal with the rise of racism in Europe.

Speaking with BBC News, the writer also gave some more details about Tommy Shelby’s arc in Season 5.

“The fact that Tommy is now an MP for South Birmingham means that he has to retain his contacts with the people of Birmingham. We all know that he has many motives, but what I’m trying to do over the long game is to rehabilitate him,” said Knight.

Bring it on!
