Teen crashes their car while doing the Bird Box challenge

Bird Box

Christ almighty.

Remember the way that Jackass used to have a warning before every episode, or how the WWE used to advise people not to perform wrestling moves at home on their siblings?

Well, we might be getting into an area where films that become pop-culture phenomenons require ridiculous warnings because just like the idea of sticking your head into a bee hive or swimming with sharks, driving with a blindfold isn’t the cleverest thing to do.

Shock.

Sadly, some people still are still embracing the stupid, as seen by this 16-year-old motorist in the USA. All this despite the fact that Netflix have actually warned people to stop doing the Bird Box challenge.

For those that are unfamiliar with the concept, the challenge stems from the film as some people have decided that they should wear blindfolds and navigate their way around the world.

The latest nominee for the Darwin Award comes from a teen that drove on a highway in Utah with her beanie hat pulled over her eyes.

According to KUTV and the Layton police department, she soon veered into the other lane and hit another car, a light pole and a sound wall.

“Honestly, I’m almost embarrassed to have to say ‘Don’t drive with your eyes covered’, but you know apparently we do have to say that. The stakes are just so high and it’s just such a potentially dangerous thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable. It really puts everybody at risk,” said Travis Lyman of the Layton police.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash.

At the rate that things are going, we’re expecting the directors of horror films to tell people that it’s not a good idea to piss off a psychopath.
