This could easily have gone horribly wrong.
There was a time when sports fans, knowing that they wouldn’t be able to watch a match live, would record it and watch it back when they got the chance while avoiding the result in the meantime.
It’s a risky strategy and nigh on impossible these days because of Twitter but a similar scenario presented itself last night for Eastenders fans who couldn’t catch the live episode in which Lucy Beale’s murderer was revealed.
Two staff members at a Spar in Ballyshannon in Donegal didn’t want anyone spoiling their party, leading them to put up a sign at a till that left customers under no illusions that Eastenders was not to be discussed in their presence.
We hope it worked.
