PIC: The story behind this superb Princess Leia mural in memory of Carrie Fisher is lovely

Paul Moore

The story behind it is great also.

There’s no denying that Carrie Fisher’s most famous on-screen character, Princess Leia in Star Wars, was inspirational and tough.

When we first meet her in Episode IV – A New Hope, she instantly defies the wishes of Darth ‘the baddest man in the galaxy’ Vader – kids can be like that to their parents sometimes – but Leia immediately reaffirms her tough credentials by delivering a withering line about Governor Tarkin’s “foul stench”.

She was no ordinary Princess.

As the world says goodbye to Carrie Fisher, various tributes have been paid to a woman that inspired others through her art, spirit and work as a champion of various mental health causes.

It’s clear that Fisher’s life moved this particular artist because they created the following mural in her memory.

Using the Instagram handle artful_dodger_01 , this artist has posted their story about how Fisher’s performance as Princess Leia influenced them.

“The Rebels’ Princess’ – Hearing about the passing of Carrie Fisher on 27 December, was definitely a shock, right out the blue. Not just for the fans, but primarily for those that were close to her. I’ll say little, because there’s nothing that I can say that hasn’t already been said by people more eloquent or better suited to speak on the matter. I wanted my last painting of 2016 to be a memorable one, especially with regard to subject matter. So, what better way to see out the year than by creating a painting that’s dedicated to someone I’ve admired & been a fan of since the first Star Wars  movie back in 1977?

“Thanks to all the passersby who spoke to me & showed their appreciation whilst I painted. It was encouraging to say the least. May the Force be with us all!”, they say.

Class.
