The podcast that took Ireland by storm is releasing new episodes

Alan Loughnane

Hell yeah…

The creators of West Cork, Ireland’s first true crime podcast, have said that they’re going to release more episodes of their hugely popular podcast.

Speaking on Dermot & Dave on Today FM this morning, creators Sam Bungey and Jennifer Forde confirmed that after people got in touch with them following the podcast’s release, new information has come to light.

While they did not confirm when the new episodes will be released, they did say they’ve been contacted by people far and wide, and that new episodes are in the pipeline.

West Cork goes in depth on the case of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, a French filmmaker who was found dead outside her holiday home near Schull, Co. Cork on 23 December 1996. She had been beaten to death; however after more than two decades, nobody has been charged with her murder.

The chief suspect was a local journalist, Ian Bailey, who was arrested twice in connection with the killing. He was originally arrested after a schoolboy named Malachi Reid said in a Garda statement that Bailey told him he had bashed her “fucking brains out”.

However, Bailey has always maintained his innocence and to this day, he’s embroiled with legal action against the state.

West Cork has received widespread acclaim and was recently named in TIME Magazine’s 50 best podcasts in the world.
