Quentin Tarantino to release new film on the 50th anniversary of the Manson Family’s murders

Quentin Tarantino

Has he gone too far this time?

No stranger to controversy, Quentin Tarantino is set to rattle cages once again.

As first reported by Variety, the director’s as-yet-untitled next film will be released on August 9, 2019; the same date as the 50th anniversary of the LaBianca murders and the day after actress Sharon Tate and four others were killed.

Speculation has been rife as to what exactly Tarantino is up to for his ninth* feature, with the rumoured cast including heavyweight names such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Margot Robbie.

Following the leak of Tarantino’s script for The Hateful Eight, details are scarce enough this time around.

What is known is that the project is set in 1969 and it does indeed appear that there will be some focus on Charles Manson and his vicious followers, likely as a backdrop to a larger crime story.

Sony will distribute the film as it goes up against Disney’s first crack at adapting Eoin Colfer’s hugely popular Artemis Fowl series of books.

*You may quibble about Kill Bill being two separate films, but whatever Tarantino delivers two summers from now will go down officially as his ninth work.

Maths may not be his strong suit…
