The Ralph Breaks the Internet cast and crew paid a beautiful tribute to Stan Lee

The iconic comic book writer made one of his final cameos in the film.

With regards to shaping the pop-culture landscape, there are very few people that can rival Stan Lee in terms of impact and influence.

Hell, he redefined the entire comic book genre with his wonderful creations and it’s fitting to his legacy that despite his sad passing, new generations will continue to find his work and be inspired by it.

Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, The Hulk, Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor.

Christ, we could be here for the entire duration of the films in the MCU and still not touch upon the influence that Lee had on the world.

This being said, as Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige stated, the gifted writer, editor, and publisher was incredibly proud of the various cameos that he made in the Marvel films.

“It would be a holiday on set, when he came to do this cameos. That’s how much he inspired people. Whether it was the beginning of the shoot, the middle, the end, the energy would skyrocket when he came on the set. Those are my strongest memories. And as much as we and the audience love the cameos, Stan loved and was so proud of every one, recalled Feige.

On this note, one of Lee’s final cameos came in the new Disney adventure Ralph Breaks the Internet and when JOE caught up with the cast and crew, they took the time to talk about that particular scene and pay tribute to Stan Lee’s seismic influence on their own careers.

Of course, the main star of the film, John C. Reilly (Wreck-It Ralph) featured alongside Lee in Guardians of the Galaxy and he was moved by the scene which featured the comic book icon.

“That scene did make me a little bit emotional. I didn’t know Stan Lee and I can’t say that I’m the biggest comic book fan, but I know that he was a beloved figure for a lot of people. One little sad thing that I heard is that he wasn’t alive to see his Wreck-It Ralph cameo, he didn’t get to see it. That made me a little sad,” said John C.Reilly.

Without giving too much away, co-director Rich Moore was incredibly proud that his film had the opportunity to pay tribute to Lee’s remarkable talent.

“Oh, that scene has so much more poignancy now. He was a big part of every storytellers life today. Personally, I loved the characters he created – just the common people that are imbued with these extraordinary powers and how they would use them. His characters always felt very human to me. They had flaws, they made mistakes. I would say that he shaped so much of what we see in films, books, comics, shows. To have him in the film, especially after the very sad news of his passing, it is very poignant,” said Moore.

As for the film, we had an absolute blast watching Ralph Breaks the Internet – you can read our review here – and much like Stan Lee’s best work, there’s plenty of laughs, action, and emotion in Disney’s latest hit.

Ralph Breaks the Internet is released in Irish cinemas on 30 November.
