We haven't been able to stop thinking about this movie since we saw it in 2024.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Wednesday, 8 July) is Red Rooms, the brilliantly haunting 2023 crime thriller from Canada.

Set in French-speaking Montreal, the film centres around a young and enigmatic fashion model named Kelly-Anne (a fantastic Juliette Gariépy, Mile End Kicks).

She, like many others, is obsessed with Ludovic Chevalier (Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, Land of the Dead), an older man currently on trial for a series of shocking murders, which were broadcast online.

When reality begins to blur with her morbid fantasies, Kelly-Anne goes down an increasingly dark path in an effort to find the final piece of the case’s puzzle.

The breakthrough movie of writer-director Pascal Plante (Nadia, Butterfly), Red Rooms is a must-see for fans of thrillers and/or true crime.

The film's compelling yet hard-to-read lead character, and its twisty narrative, will keep viewers hooked right up until the credits roll.

That said, it's Plante's dark and icy direction (recalling the work of David Fincher, particularly Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Zodiac) and his exploration of obsession, the morbid lure of true crime, and digital age paranoia that linger long with audiences after watching.

Holding a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Red Rooms is on TV tonight on Film4 at 11.10pm.

The movie will also be available to stream on Channel 4's website after it airs.
