REPORT: Matt Damon and Liam Neeson to star in new film that's set off the Irish coast

This would be very cool.

Matt Damon is no stranger to being on a motorbike after kicking ass in four Jason Bourne films, so we're not exactly surprised to learn that he has reportedly signed on to star in a new film about the Isle of Man TT. Morebikes are reporting that filming is set to commence next June on the island and that Damon will play "an ageing racer lured out of retirement to have a go at the iconic Mountain course".

Ben Younger is the director - he made Boiler Room, Prime and the upcoming boxing drama Bleed For This - and the film is set to chronicle "the titular dangerous event that takes place on the island of the same name in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland".

According to Morebikes, real life TT hero Cameron Donald will be playing the body double for Damon’s character and a source has told them that "Cam is going to do the riding for Matt who plays a racer who comes to the TT later on in his career. We’ve already been working as advisers to the technical aspects of the film. It’s all very exciting and there seems to be a big budget involved. It’s one of those movies with lots of people attached. I’ve met with the writer and director Ben Younger and he has a clear idea of how it’s going to happen. There’s a lot of film people who will be at the TT making this film next year.”

The addition of Neeson is sure to add some extra gravitas because the star of Taken, Schindler's List and Star Wars is a huge motorcycling fan. Neeson narrated the documentary Road, profiling the famous Dunlop family and he also rides bikes himself.

The film is a passion project for director Younger who told Variety that "I’m thrilled to be partnering with Bold Films on what is an absolute passion project. The Tourist Trophy is the last, great, dangerous race on earth and I am excited by the idea of bringing this new world to a general audience. Over 200 racers have lost their lives on this Island. I want to do their stories justice".

Neeson and Damon's involvement with the project hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but if it is, we expect a fair few visitors to the Isle of Man next summer.
