The first BIG release of 2022 is here!
Welcome to the new year! Is your resolution to watch more big movies in the cinema, or more great movies and/or shows at home?
That is exactly what you’ll find in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, which can be watched in full below, or you can skip to the cinema reviews (7:29), home entertainment recommendations (13:59), and classic re-watches (19:45).
Here are the new cinema releases, which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 14 January,
SCREAM
A little over 25 years since the original Scream terrified audiences, the central trio – Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette – are back when a new killer begins killing apparently innocent victims in Woodsboro. But are they all connected somehow? Check out our full review right here.
CYRANO
Peter Dinklage was recently nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globes for his portrayal of famous wordsmith Cyrano de Bergerac, who is asked by a handsome stranger to help win the heart of the woman that Cyrano himself is quietly in love with. From director Joe Writer (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice).
And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…
PIG
The movie that everyone is saying Nicolas Cage should maybe get another Oscar for, playing an isolated farmer who is violently attacked and has his prize truffle-hunting pig taken from him. Sounds like “Taken but with a pig”, but trust us, it is so much more than that.
Available on NOW from Sunday, 16 January.
HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA: TRANSFORMANIA
The fourth entry in the Hotel Transylvania franchise missed cinemas, going direct to home streaming. Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Katherine Hahn, Steve Buscemi and more return to voice their monstrous characters.
Available on Prime Video from Friday, 14 January.
AFTER LIFE SEASON THREE
The third and final season of Ricky Gervais’ hit melodramatic comedy continues to find some proper connections in a world he no longer feels any association with. He has promised us that the doggo WILL NOT DIE.
Available on Netflix from Friday, 14 January.
ETERNALS
Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan and our own Barry Keoghan (who we interviewed about the movie below) star in Marvel’s intergalactic, millenium-spanning action epic.
Available to watch on Disney+ right now.
And finally, the amazingly exciting Pizza And A Movie section, with Rory and Eoghan each picking a movie for you to enjoy at home this weekend, and putting it to a public vote to decide which is the better pick…
Here are this week’s picks, with the vote once again going up on JOE’s Instagram channel, so keep an eye out on that to have your say!
Rory’s Pick – WILD THINGS
To celebrate the release of Scream and the big screen return of Neve Campbell, why not check out this mid-90s erotic thriller, in which Campbell gets caught up in murderous plots alongside Denise Richards, Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon and Bill Murray.
Available to watch on Netflix right now.
Eoghan’s Pick – MEN IN BLACK
Turning 25 years old this year (!!!), and with Will Smith launching the new gritty reboot of Bel-Air, now is as good a time as any to (re)visit this brilliant sci-fi action-comedy.
Available to watch on NOW right now.
Clips via Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Altitude Pictures, Prime Video, Netflix & Sony Pictures
