Ryan Reynolds is a very funny man.
Deadpool. The Hitman's Bodyguard. Blade Trinity (terrible movie, but he was hilarious in it). Just Friends. The Change-Up. Van Wilder.
But what do all of these movies have in common? They're all quite, how do we put this?, "adult" with their humour.
So casting him as one of the most famous family-friendly characters of all time in Pokémon Detective Pikachu was quite the risk, but a risk that 100% pays off, as his take on the cute yellow hero is brilliantly funny.
However, with that funny, "adult" mind of his at work, was there ever a point where he had made a joke, but the film-makers thought it went that step too far? As it turns out, yes, yes there was, as JOE found out in our Irish-exclusive interview with the star:
"There was one controversial joke that I felt was fine for a movie of this calibre, for an all-audience kind of movie, but it got a little controversial behind-the-scenes," Ryan told us.
"It was a big debate internally at Warner Brothers, about this one joke. But it worked out, they didn't use it, but maybe they'll have it on the extras.
"It was more about letting the audience use their own imagination, rather than saying the thing that was in front of me.
"Its fun, because Pikachu just sort of has a running commentary over everything that he's doing. He's kind of, in a way, sort of like a version of Deadpool, that everyone can [go to] see. And he's a lot snugglier."
