Angus Macfadyen, who played Robert the Bruce in Braveheart, is making a return as the titular character.
"They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!"
That short quote is, without question, up there with one of the most iconic in cinema history. Twenty four years on, the magic of Braveheart is still as synonymous with Scotland as haggis, Billy Connolly and Scott Brown.
All of this comes before you mention the fact that it's simply an incredible movie that is always worth re-watching. Incredible views over the highlands of Scotland, fantastic acting, and a (mostly) historical plot all add up to what will always remain a classic historical movie.
At this year's Edinburgh Film Festival, a movie called Robert the Bruce was shown for the first time. Whilst this isn't an unusual character for a movie (remember 2018's Outlaw King that resulted in Chris Pine getting his wang out?), the fact that they have a familiar face at the helm makes it all the more interesting.
All these years later, Angus Macfadyen is making a return as Robert the Bruce after playing him in Braveheart. We're also hoping the legend who told Brendan Gleeson he "owned" Ireland will also be making a return...
Despite this huge connection, it isn't directly connected to the original. Officially speaking it stands alone, and has a totally different director (Australian Richard Gray instead of Australian citizen Mel Gibson).
Maybe it's for the best that it isn't being marketed as "Braveheart II: Return to Sterling," or maybe "Braveheart II: Brave Harder."
I don't know, you try come up with better names for a Braveheart sequel.
