There was a strong reaction to Sunday night’s Room To Improve

Room To Improve on a Sunday night seems to be fast-becoming Ireland’s new favourite obsession.

The Dermot Bannon-presented home improvement show follows the journey of Bannon and a person or couple who are keen to indulge in some home improvements.

A simple concept it would seem in theory, yes, but it appears that home improvement often plays second fiddle to the drama of the rigmarole itself in the presence of TV cameras and a legion of builders.

Each week, viewers of the show meet a new person and/or couple who allow a film crew and essentially the whole country in tow, into their home to deal with the drama of refurbishments.

Sunday night’s episode introduced us to dairy farmer Padraig and his wife, Katie, who own a 100-year-old farmhouse in Tipperary.

And there was no shortage of opinions last night as Twitter blew up with a rolling commentary of the show.

With a very clear idea about what they wanted (and what they didn’t) the pair enlisted the help of Dermot to ‘finish off’ the inside of their home.

Well, straight out the gate we knew there was going to be trouble as Katie shut down Dermot’s initial design and revealed open-plan living was most definitely not for her.

Oh and Padraig shared that he wasn’t a huge fan of a lot of glass either.

Yes, for anyone who tunes in to the show regularly, you’ll know that when it comes to Dermot Bannon, there will be two things clients will most certainly be getting – an open-plan living space and a rake of glass.

From the debate on “the wall” to that issue of the window colour, it was a battle start to finish and we were all totally wrecked after watching it.

When it came down to it though, you can’t deny that Katie and Padraig were left with an absolute whopper of a house – who you’d give the credit to, however, is up to yourself.
