RTÉ confirm when The Young Offenders Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day

The Young offenders Christmas special

Make some time for Conor and Jock. Yes!

Every household will have their Christmas Day traditions.

You know the routine. Wake up with a slight fuzzy head from the night before, scoff into your selection box for Christmas, see what Santa brought you before swapping gifts with your family, bundle into the car for mass, regret the fact that you’re actually in mass and not at home on the couch, wolf into more chocolates, watch TV, delicious dinner.

And then comes the fun part.

Arguing over who gets to control the remote.

Well, if you’re looking to stake a claim for a certain time when you rule the roost over the TV on Christmas Day, we implore you to make it 22:35 on RTÉ One.

Oh yes, after premiering last night on BBC 3, Irish audiences will get a chance to see Cork’s favourite langers get up to some festive feckery when The Young Offenders Christmas special airs.

We reckon the lads don’t have much time for Robert Sheehan’s Hollywood charms, but it’s saying a lot when the star of Misfits and Love/Hate isn’t even the biggest draw here.

As for the plot, it’s Christmas week and the residents of the estate where Conor (Alex Murphy), Jock (Chris Walley) and Mairead (Hilary Rose) live have been fighting off an eviction from the council for over a month. The situation has been getting national media coverage and everyone involved is on edge, including the police.

While all this is happening, Mairead has been sick for weeks and has to be taken to hospital, a place Conor and Jock hate. Not knowing how to help, the lads ask Mairead if there’s anything they can get her. Mairead says she’s never seen a white Christmas, so the two friends set off on a chaotic adventure to try make her wish come true.

BBC One are airing the episode again on 23 December at 23:15 but if you happen to miss it, RTÉ have you sorted on Christmas Day.

Perfect viewing with a late night pint/cup of tea and some sweets.

This looks excellent!
