RTÉ is looking for people who are handy around the house for their new DIY show

Rory Cashin

There is ten grand up for grabs!

Are you good at fixing, improving, or making things?

Or do you know someone who can grab a hammer, a saw, a bunch of nails, and create a perfect gazebo?

Then you need to know about RTE’s new show The Big DIY Challenge.

There is a top prize of €10,000 but there are also prizes going for Best small job, Best upcycling project, Best interior project, Best outdoor project, and Best DIY Fail.

Presenter PJ Gallagher said: “I can wire a plug but generally I’ve always had ornamental hands and only dream of one day making something useful… like a breadboard. I’m really looking forward to meeting my fellow DIY fans around the country and even more so I’m hoping to see some really original projects… and even some epic fails! A friend of mine is building a hen house in the shape of the GPO, I’d love to see something cool like that win.”

To take part, first you must fill in the registration form here before Tuesday 9 April.

The show will then contact you to let you know that you’ll be taking part, and then you must do the job from start to finish between the Friday 19 and Sunday 28 April.

A selection of these will then get a visit from PJ Gallagher during the construction phase. Each of the projects will be assessed by two judges, TU lecturer in construction Jennifer Byrne and Woodie’s power tool specialist Michal Dachowski, to decide who will win the top prize.
