Wednesday night viewing sorted…

The first episode of RTÉ’s new three-part series The Hardest Harvest is on RTÉ One on Wednesday night at 9.35pm.

The series follows an Irish farmer, forester and fisherman as they travel to the poorest areas in the world and attempt to survive living off the land and sea using nothing butter bare hands, basic tools and instincts.

First up is dairy farmer Paula Hynes, from Aherla in Cork, as she bids adieu to her state of the art milking parlour in the Rebel County to join the remote Maasai tribe in southern Kenya.

Paula is taken completely out of her comfort zone, as a self-confessed travelphobe she’s only left Ireland once in the last 16 years, and is hurled into life in Kenya for two and a half weeks.

During her time there she’ll learn about the devastating drought affecting the area, how the locals have managed to survive with unorthodox methods including drinking the blood of their cattle, and attempt to barter a better price for cattle at the local market.

The first episode airs at 9.35 on RTÉ One tonight.
