It will be the first time the state broadcaster will have failed to show the awards in 11 years.

RTÉ have reportedly made the decision not to broadcast next year’s Irish Film and Television Awards because of the technical issues that marred this year’s show.

The 2014 event received scathing criticism because of poor lighting and sound, while it also ran over schedule by 25 minutes.

Guests could be heard talking at tables while hosts Simon Delaney and Laura Whitmore were speaking.

The Sunday Times contacted organisers of the IFTAs, who insisted they had nothing from RTÉ about their decision.
