He wrote seven Harry Potter films and will now work with J.K Rowling on Fantastic Beasts 3.
There are a litany of people that are needed to make a great film, however the cliche states that everything must start on the page.
In that sense, J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books were a gift to any potential Hollywood studio because the novels were brimming with fully-formed characters, a rich universe, and breathtaking spectacle.
This being said, the job of an author and a screenwriter are very different.
In this sense, Steve Kloves is one of the most important people in the Harry Potter Cinematic Universe (the HPCU doesn’t have the same sound to it, does it?) because he has written the scripts for seven Harry Potter films.
In fact, the only film that Kloves didn’t write the script for was Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix.
As fans of the wizarding world will know, J.K. Rowling has been the sole scriptwriter for the first two Fantastic Beasts films and well, they’ve been missing a little bit of magic.
Well, Deadline are reporting that production on Fantastic Beasts 3 has now been approved by Warner Bros. and that work will start in spring 2020. The new adventure is going to be set in Rio de Janeiro.
To make things even better, Kloves is back as a co-writer on the film.
Although Kloves served as a producer on the first two Fantastic Beasts movies, this is the first time that he’s receiving a screenwriting credit where he’ll be writing alongside Rowling.
The same report states that Jessica Williams, who featured briefly in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, will have a bigger role this time around with her character, Professor Eulalie “Lally” Hicks, a teacher at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the American equivalent of Hogwarts.
In terms of cast, Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald), Ezra Miller (Credence / Aurelius Dumbledore), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) and Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) are all returning.
Once again, David Yates is directing and fans can expect to see the film on 12 November, 2021.
