Dirty John Season 2

The anthology series returns and here’s what Season 2 is about.

After the TV show Dirty John became such a hit with audiences around the world, USA Network had a happy headache because that particular story – based on the LA Times articles and popular true crime podcast on the life of John Michael Meehan – had a definitive ending.

However, the network have followed the example of American Horror Story, The Sinner, True Detective etc because the show is returning and adopting an anthology format.

News of a second season was announced in May but Variety have reported that Amanda Peet and Christian Slater will star in the new season that’s titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story.

In terms of the plot, Season 2 will be thematically similar to the first season which starred Connie Britton and Eric Bana.

Yet again, the creators will be focusing on another true tale of love that’s gone horribly wrong.

The report states that the plot focuses “on a story that spans the 1960s to the ’80s, through the breakdown of a marriage that Oprah Winfrey deemed one of ‘America’s messiest divorces’ even before it ended in double homicide.

“After years of sacrifice and suffering while supporting Dan (Slater) through both medical and law school until he exploded into the San Diego legal community as a superstar, Betty (Peet) is finally enjoying the fruits of their labours. That is, until Dan hires Linda, a bright, beautiful young woman with whom he can happily forget the struggles of his past.”

Maggie Kiley, Kat Candler, Meera Menon, Shannon Kohli and showrunner Alexandra Cunningham, will all be directing episodes.

Netflix will be co-producing the season and the online streaming giant will have first-run rights to air the show outside the U.S.
