Season 5 of Peaky Blinders won’t have a key character returning for the new episodes

Paul Moore

Peaky blinders season 5

The new season of Peaky Blinders is currently filming.

With the arrival of Anya Taylor-Joy into Small Heath, we were curious if the star of Split was going to play a romantic interest for Tommy because it seemed unlikely. After all, the leader of the Peaky Blinders is currently interested in Jessie and Lizzie.

Tommy’s a resourceful man but surely juggling three women is even beyond him!

This being said, plenty of people are still hoping that Tommy ends up with Charlotte Riley’s character, the horse trainer and rich widow, May Carleton.

Since being introduced in Season 2, May has been a key fan favourite with many people think that she’s a better fit for Tommy than his wife Grace.

Ballsy, tough, and not afraid of stepping out onto the wild side, May is more than capable of going toe-to-toe with the leader of the Peaky Blinders as she delivers lines like ‘You’ve told me about her like a gentleman – now kindly behave like a gangster for me again” with aplomb.

After vanishing for Season 3, she reappeared at Charlie’s Yard in the most recent season and plenty of people were hoping for Tommy and her to rekindle their romance.

Sadly, it appears that Riley won’t be featuring in the Season 5.

In an interview with Digital Spy,  Riley said: “I don’t think that my character will be coming back,” Riley said. “I mean, I would go back in a heartbeat [if asked], because I just love it so much.”

This being said, we might be seeing the character return because Riley is very open to the idea of a Peaky Blinders film.

“I wonder if they’ll ever do a film of it? That would be quite good. There were rumours, but I don’t know if any of them are true. I suppose, what would you gain from making it only 90 minutes long? That’s kind of the argument in a nutshell, isn’t it, of why people do long-form TV?,” she said.

Season 5 of Peaky Blinders is currently filming and it has recently announced a raft of new Irish talent joining its ranks.
