The secret Jurassic World film that was shot in Ireland premieres this weekend

Jurassic World

Life finds a way because there are dinosaurs in Ireland.

While some people might argue that Isla Nublar isn’t as remote and peaceful as some of the islands that are off the coast of Ireland – the rampaging and ravenous dinosaurs have a habit of spoiling the mood – we’re not 100% certain that there’s not a T-Rex roaming wild off the west coast either.

Headline: “Rampaging dinosaurs go wild in Ireland causing mass devastation.”

You can insert your own joke here.

Anyway, these 32 counties are quite familiar with some big productions being filmed on these shores – Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Vikings, Saving Private Ryan being fine examples – but one Brachiosaurus-sized franchise has also filmed on location in Ireland.

The thing is, you might not know about it because the production is shrouded in secrecy.

Lo and behold, the mysterious project is an official Jurassic World short film called Battle at Big Rock and it’s set to premiere this weekend in the US on Sunday, 15 September on FX.

What’s interesting is that the film was was co-written by Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) and directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World).

The short film stars André Holland, Natalie Martinez, Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador.

A renowned fansite has details about the plot and states that: “The short takes place one year after the events of the last film in Big Rock National Park, where dinosaurs are now living in our world. The story follows a family of four whose encounter with these wild animals becomes a terrifying fight for survival.”

Colin Trevorrow confirmed the premiere date and during a recent interview with JOE’s Rory Cashin, Bryce Dallas Howard, star of Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, practically confirmed the the Jurassic World crew were filming in Ireland.

“I can’t answer that question. I can’t say anything, but I’m not saying no,” she laughed.

Yeah, that’s pretty much a confirmation.

In terms of locations, the crew were spotted filming in Powerscourt Estate, Wicklow.

Mmm, keep your eyes peeled and see if you can spot any familiar locations making an appearance.

With regards to the Jurassic World trilogy, the third instalment is set to be released in June 2021. Given the fact that filming hasn’t even started yet on Jurassic World 3, we’re certain that the Irish-shot footage will feature in the upcoming short.

Here’s Bryce Dallas Howard chatting about the production and confirmation from Colin Trevorrow that the show will premiere this weekend before it’s made available online.
