Kate Demolder

Get comfy, and stay there.

Yet another great day of television is to be expected today, with plenty to choose from in terms of variety.

Whether you need to keep the kids entertained, have a penchant for talking animals, or are feeling a little worse for wear after last night – we most certainly have you covered.

Babe – 3e @ 13:40

Academy Award winner and Best Picture nominee, Babe is the inspirational story of a shy Yorkshire piglet who doesn’t quite know his place in the world. But when Farmer Hoggett wins him at the county fair, Babe discovers that he can be anything he wants to be – even an award-winning sheepdog.

A must-watch for anyone feeling fragile today.

Back To The Future Part 2 – RTÉ One @13:45

The second instalment in the Back To The Future series, Part 2 follows Marty McFly when he is once again picked up by Dr. Emmett Brown and sent through time to the future. Marty’s job in the future is to pose as his own son to prevent him from being thrown in prison. Unfortunately, things get worse when the future changes the present.

Eat lead, slackers!

The Borrowers – RTE 2 @ 11:20

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EjezqYk9Dc

A secret family of four-inch people living inside the walls of a house must save their home from an evil real estate developer.

A classic nineties film with little people, big ideas and John Goodman. What more could you want?

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban – RTÉ 2 @ 15:30

Now we’re talking.

It’s Harry and the gang’s third year in Hogwarts. Along with friends Ron and Hermione, Harry investigates Sirius Black, an escaped prisoner from Azkaban who they believe is one of Lord Voldemort’s old allies.

Into The West – 3 @ 5pm

Incorporating Irish folklore, Gabriel Byrne and beans like no other – Into The West is a national treasure, life lesson and masterpiece all in one. A deceptively complex film disguised as a mere boys adventure tale, this film is a ghost story of love, loss, redemption, and the power of both myth and family.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – RTÉ 2 @ 18:40

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with Gandalf the Grey and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies – RTÉ 2 @ 21:30

Yep, you get two Hobbits in a row. What a time to be alive.

Men, elves, dwarves, orcs, and goblins come to sword and bow point with each other in the last instalment from Peter Jackson, The Battle of the Five Armies. Bilbo and the Company of King Thorin Oakenshield are forced into war by the Orcs of Gundabad and Moria lead by Azog and Bolg and chief leader Sauron.

Dirty Dancing – 3 @ 9pm

Its the summer of 1963 and Baby is stuck at the Catskills with her parents. Attempting to make the best of the situation, Baby attends the organised classes on merengue dancing and wig demonstration. Suddenly, all of that changes when she meets Johnny Castle, the resort’s dance instructor.

The Guard – RTÉ One @ 9:30

Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town Irish Garda with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

A brilliant film with even better quotes. If you see one film on this list, make the The Guard. Trust us.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
