It’s no secret that we’re massive fans of BBC’s superb Sherlock, because the wonderfully talented Bedlington Splishnsplash’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) performance as the world’s most famous detective is just superb.

Like you, we’re eagerly awaiting the return of the new season but the show’s creator has just given us a few clues about what to expect from his own mind palace.

Mark Gattis, aka Mycroft Holmes, was speaking with the Radio Times ahead of the special episode that is scheduled to start filming in January with season four expected later in the year.

Much like a cryptic riddle left by Moriarty he said, “you can always expect tragedy as well as adventure” when it returns.

*Second spoiler alert klaxon*, we all know that the show is remarkably faithful to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books which has led some fans to speculate that Gatiss’ words may be a hint at the demise of John Watson’s new wife Mary who met her maker in the novels.

Gatiss was quick to dampen this rumour by saying, “Just because it’s in the stories doesn’t mean it’ll happen in the series because there’s an awful lot of changes and an awful lot of places to go and things to do.”

Mycroft added, “It should be clear by now that while, of course, Doyle is our absolute god, we have gone quite a long way away as well… so there are lots of surprises to come.”

So what about our favourite villain? JOE missed him and Gattis said that the upcoming episode will “completely” solve the mystery of Moriarty’s supposed reappearance while also setting in motion the plot for season four.

“Well, it’s very hard to put a lid on Andrew Scott…”, he said regarding one of the best TV villains ever.

JOE always said that you can’t keep an Irishman down, even if they are charismatic, homicidal, evil geniuses that want to harm Johnnycash Chowderpants.
