It has been seven long years since A Game Of Shadows, and fans of the Robert Downey Jnr. and Jude Law pairing have been left hungry for the inevitable follow-up.
Combined, the first two movies have made over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, but Downey Jnr. got caught up in the MCU, Law went on to become The Young Pope, and Guy Ritchie - director of the first two movies - has since given us the mixed bag of The Man From UNCLE and King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.
Earlier this year we got confirmation that Sherlock Holmes 3 has been given a release date: Christmas Day 2020, putting in direct competition with sci-fi epic Avatar 2 and animated musical Sing 2.
We also know that Downey Jnr. and Law are back, while Ritchie hasn't signed on as of yet, since he is putting the finishing touches to his live-action version of Aladdin.

During an early press trip for his upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindlewald, Jude Law spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the Holmes threequel:
"We hope to propel the story forward. As always, the essence of the story is their codependency.
"We’re going to examine — since it’s been several years since we’ve seen them — we’re going to play up the fact that they haven’t seen each other for a long time either."
Considering how much these two clearly love each other, we're imagining that spending several years apart hasn't done either of them any good.
Christmas 2020 can't come soon enough, but in the meantime, you can check out this latest footage from the Fantastic Beasts sequel (which a recent poll discovered is the most anticipated movie by cinemagoers in the coming months), in which the cast and crew reminisce on their favourite memories of Hogwarts:
