#TRAILERCHEST: Mexico is turned into a war zone in the latest trailer for Sicario 2

Rory Cashin

“I need you to help me start a war.” “With who?” “Everyone.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Sicario 2, or as it is now called, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado.

Plot’s it all about? Emily Blunt’s character is no longer around, with Del Toro’s violent avenger now front-and-centre of the action, pushed forward into setting up a war between the Mexican drug cartels by Brolin’s dodgy government agent once it is discovered that some of the cartels have been assisting in smuggling actual terrorists across the US/Mexico border.

Yep, it all sounds pretty topical and current, but it also looks like the action was ramped WAY up from the original, with the original screenwriter (who was also behind Hell Or High Water and Wind River) returning for the sequel, while the new director is someone who knows his way around crime epics, having helmed a lot of Gomorrah episodes.

Meanwhile, it looks like Del Toro is paired up with Moner (who plays the daughter of a drug kingpin), a witness who has a price on her head, and Del Toro may be forced to go head-to-head with Brolin to keep her alive.

Weird retitling issues aside, this looks like it is in with a good chance of being one of the best movies of the summer.

Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Catherine Keener, Matthew Modine, Isabelle Moner.

Director: Steffano Solima

Irish release date: 29 June

Enjoy…
