Jim Carrey is obviously having a blast as the bad guy.
Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog.
Plot’s it all about? If you’ve ever played the video game version of Sonic The Hedgehog, then you know the plot essentially involves a speedy blue hedgehog that frees his animal buddies from their robotic cages, having been placed their by Dr. Robotnik, who wants to get his hands on the Chaos Emeralds, because… reasons?
The movie adaptation seems only tangentially related to that, as here we hear Sonic say “I’m here to save your planet”, which would imply that he is an alien, and Dr. Robotnik (played for the back row by Jim Carrey) seems to have been hired by the government to find him, because… reasons?
Listen, it isn’t easy to get a grasp on what is actually going on here, as Sonic seems to be shedding electricity-conducting spines, his famous golden rings appear to be giant teleporters, and by the way he smashed into the car, he seems to have no concern about human life.
On the other hand, that “baby in your bag” joke at the end of the trailer is dark enough to be VERY funny, so maybe the scriptwriters are leaning heavy into the absurdity of it all, and we’ll end up with History’s First Good Movie Based On A Video Game?
