Great news for Sons of Anarchy fans.

Despite the fact that it hasn’t even aired on Irish TV screens, Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spin-off, Mayans MC, has been given a massive boost after FX announced that the show has been renewed for a second season.

Having debuted only a few weeks ago, the show has performed incredibly well in the ratings – the first episode drew 5.1 million viewers and throughout the first three episodes, it was the most-watched programme in Tuesday night primetime in the US.

According to data provided by FX, the series is also averaging 8.2 million viewers per episode across all platforms.

Despite the fact that it’s a hit with audiences, critics have been less kind to the show.

At present, Mayans MC has a 57% rating on Metacritic and 69% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not all critics loved Sons of Anarchy, however, but that didn’t stop it from developing a devout cult following.

“’Mayans MC is performing fantastically, proving to be a breakout first season,” said Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

“The series premiered as the highest-rated cable series this year and continues to sustain a committed fan base, reflecting the talent and drive of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. We couldn’t be more excited to take this ride to a second season.”

In terms of the plot, Mayans MC follows Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo), who is fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border.

Now, about that Irish premiere date? We don’t know that just yet, but when we do, you, dear readers, will be the first to know.
