They’ll happily follow up bilge like Man of Steel, but won’t bother doing a sequel from one of the more entertaining films of the summer. Hmph.
Sony look less and less likely to take up the option of making a sequel to Ghostbusters.
The Paul Feig reboot suffered from very poor word of mouth before it was released – it had the most disliked trailer in the history of YouTube – but actually turned out to have plenty of fans around the world when it was released.
While hardly the best film of a mediocre summer, it was an awful lot more fun than that Suicide Squad dirge, or Independence Day: Pointless Follow-Up.
Anyway, Sony won’t be giving it a sequel. Shame.
Apparently, American audiences didn’t take to it, and analyst Jeff Bock reckons a sequel is dead in the water.
“I just can’t fathom the creative talents behind it—Feig, McCarthy, Wiig, etc.—slogging out another [Ghostbusters] when the reception to the first one was so mediocre,” he said.
