South Park’s final episode calls out exactly who’s to blame for Trump

Kate Demolder

South Park has just wrapped up filming its 21st season, and it’s leaving us with some not-so-subtle hints in the process.

Those familiar with the guise of South Park will know that the creators of the show aren’t shy about tackling big issues. The show, which has been running for two decades, has in the past called out politicians, ambassadors and ruined celebrities for certain things they’ve said or done.

However, someone who managed to avoid the South Park spotlight in recent years is Donald Trump. The US President was only mentioned on the show for the first time back in 2015 and has experienced an altogether pleasant appraisal in comparison to other shows’ views on him.

However, all good things come to an end – as the show’s finale totally rips him apart.

Spoiler alert – this article does contain spoilers of the South Park finale, should you choose to read on.

The final episode, Splatty Tomato, draws a comparison between Trump and Stephen King’s film It. Trump is parodied by the teacher-turned-President Mr Garrison, and looks eerily similar to Pennywise, the horror film’s iconic laughing clown.

However, instead of hanging around in drainpipes, this clown hangs out in the forest seeking approval ratings. The parody scares people in the town but is eventually captured, but despite his capture, he is immediately freed by a new family to the show, known only as The Whites.

This swift turn of affairs would allow us to presume that writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone are implying that it’s white people that led to Trump’s rise to Presidency.

Check out a clip from the episode, and see for yourself.
