For the last few seasons, The Walking Dead has been haemorrhaging characters — which makes quite a lot of sense, given the dangers that are present in the post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled show.
But following the departure of Andrew Lincoln, who played the lead character Rick Grimes from the show's beginning, fans must be starting to wonder where the neighbourhood is gone.
Lincoln's departure was compounded on Friday night when it was announced that the show's next season — Season 10 — will be the final one for Danai Gurira. Gurira plays Michonne, a leader of the Alexandria Safe Zone, an all-round badass type.
Gurira has recently seen her fame skyrocket after being cast in the MCU's Black Panther as General Okoye. She also played a noticeable part in Avengers: Infinity War and is set to star in this year's follow-up, Endgame.
Whether this is truly the end of Gurira as Michonne remains to be seen. AMC is currently working on no less than three Walking Dead feature length films, which will star Andrew Lincoln. We wouldn't be surprised to see Gurira turn up there.
AMC and representatives for Gurira declined comment.
