Another change in the galaxy that’s far, far away.
There’s a new disturbance in the Force as Colin Trevorrow has become the latest director to part ways with a Star Wars project.
Following the recent news that Chris Miller and Phil Lord were replaced by Ron Howard on the Han Solo spin-off film, Lucasfilm have confirmed that Trevorrow will no longer direct Star Wars: Episode IX.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Lucasfilm praised the director but added that they had “mutually chosen” to part ways on the project.
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon,” the statement read.
After the massive success of Jurassic World, it took $1.6bn at the box office, Trevorrow was confirmed as the director for the finale of the latest Star Wars trilogy in August 2015.
After impressing with his debut feature Safety Not Guaranteed and then again with Jurassic World, Trevorrow suffered the first critical backlash of his career after his latest film, The Book of Henry, was poorly received.
At the present moment, a replacement for Trevorrow has not been confirmed but Rian Johnson and J.J Abrams have already been linked with a return to the galaxy that’s far, far away.
Both men have previously directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi respectively.
In fact, Deadline are reporting that Johnson, director of Looper and Brick, is the preferred choice.
Johnson has previously said that he would make another Star Wars Film ‘in a heartbeat’ and it appears that he’s a safe pair of hands when it comes to the world’s most beloved sci-fi saga.

The next Star Wars film to hit screens will be Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is due out on December 15th.
