Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, one of 2026's biggest sci-fi movies, has just been added to streaming.
As part of this, they are tasked with rescuing Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White, The Bear), son of the deceased crime lord Jabba, in exchange for information on a target.
That said, it earned mixed reviews from critics, holding a 60% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Some reviewers praised the film's action, creature designs, and score. Others, however, found the movie to be lacking in ambition and in the story department, arguing that it didn't justify the transition from TV to cinema.
You can read a sample of the more positive write-ups below:
The Daily Beast: "A swashbuckling space Western that deftly marries combative spectacle and kid-friendly cuteness."
Daily Mail (UK): "You want action? This over-delivers, with chases, shoot-em-ups, big clanking AT-ATs firing lasers and endless fights stuffed with more monsters than a Warhammer bargain bin."
Detroit News: "The movie is, in a sense, a series of strung together action scenes, and while it's not top notch action, it's enough, and the creatures conjure up some of the old Star Wars magic."
The Film Verdict: "There’s no shortage of Star Wars–level wow factor, from the slimy beasts to the outer-space dogfights to Ludwig Göransson’s score."
HeyUGuys: "It's a scrappy, creature-filled adventure movie about a weary warrior and his tiny adopted son stumbling into danger after danger. It may not reinvent the franchise, but it reminds you why you fell in love with that world in the first place."
Observer (UK): "The story is thin: Mando zaps around the cosmos bringing imperial fugitives to justice and accruing serious enemies along the way. But the execution is impressive."
