One of many announcements from the world of Star Wars.

4 May was a big day for Star Wars fans.

It is commonly referred to as Star Wars Day and, for a lot of people, it can often tend to not mean anything more than an excuse to rewatch your favourite Star Wars movie…

But this time it came with some fairly huge news.

It was announced that the brilliant Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) will be directing a Star Wars feature film in the near future.

Fresh from winning an Oscar for Jojo Rabbit, he will team up with 1917 co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns for the currently untitled movie.

You can check out our chats with Taika by clicking here and Krysty by clicking here.

It won’t be Waititi’s first involvement in the galaxies far far away, as he has already directed the final episode of the first season of Star Wars spin-off show The Mandalorian.

It was also announced that a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+ was in development.

This new series will add to a growing list of Star Wars stories for Disney’s streaming platform including The Mandalorian, now in post-production on Season Two, and two other previously announced series: one based on Cassian Andor’s life prior to the events of Rogue One, and another following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.

Don’t forget, you can check out ALL the Star Wars movies right now on Disney+, including brand new release Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
