Viewers say thriller series added to Netflix is ‘best thing they’ve seen all year’

Created by an Irish writer, the show has drawn comparisons to Breaking Bad.

Netflix subscribers are getting hooked on the gruesome crime thriller Temple, which has had its two seasons added to streaming service.

That said, fans of the show are claiming that some of its scenes are so stressful that they are keeping them up at night.

Starring Mark Strong (Kingsman) as lead character Daniel Milton, the series focuses on a surgeon who sets up an illegal clinic beneath Temple tube station to treat criminals and other desperate patients who are unable to seek treatment from regular doctors and hospitals.

Daniel uses the money from this work to try and find a cure for his wife, Beth (Catherine McCormack, Braveheart), who suffers from a terminal illness.

Carice Van Houten (Game of Thrones) and Daniel Mays (Line of Duty) also star in the show, with the latter playing a transport network employee who helps Daniel in his quest.

Based on a Norwegian thriller, Temple was created by Irish playwright and screenwriter Mark O’Rowe (Intermission).

The series was originally produced by Sky, with season one airing in 2019 and season two coming out in 2021.

It earned generally positive reviews but following its addition to Netflix, many fans of Temple have flocked to social media to sing its praises.

One person claimed: “Temple on Netflix is the best series I’ve watched this year.”

“Temple on Netflix. OMG I’m hooked. I always do this to myself before bedtime,” a second said.

Another wrote: “Just started to watch #Temple. Really really cool. I am hooked already #Netflix”.

A fourth said: “Temple on Netflix is so good but I’m so stressed.”

Meanwhile, others likened it to the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad as one said: “Temple is really good, reminds me a touch of Breaking Bad. A ‘normal man’s decent into psychopathy, or uncovering of it! #TEMPLE”

Season one and two of Temple are streaming on Netflix in Ireland and the UK right now.
