A tense crime drama with a great cast is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It features Tom Hardy, as well as James Gandolfini in his final film role.

In the mood to watch something this Tuesday night? Why not check out one of these offerings airing on TV this evening.

The Shallows – E4 – 9pm

A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy (Blake Lively) is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.

This stripped-back survival thriller stands out from similar movies in the sub-genre thanks to its charismatic lead turn and numerous nail-bitingly tense set-pieces.

Brothers in Arms – Film Four – 9pm

A police officer who serves in the Marine Corps Reserves is faced with an ethical dilemma when it comes to helping his brother in prison.

Recognisable faces Jai Courtney and Nat Wolff star in this 2019 crime drama.

Re-Animator – Horror Channel – 10.50pm

After an odd new medical student (Jeffrey Combs) arrives on campus, a dedicated local (Bruce Abbott) and his girlfriend (Barbara Crampton) become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue.

This scrungy 1985 horror from legend of the genre Stuart Gordon boasts incredible special effects, a ton of funny if gross gags and an iconic villain turn from Combs.

Contagion – Turner Classic Movies – 11pm

From Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic director Steven Soderbergh, this starry and prescient pandemic thriller from 2011 is either the worst film to watch given current circumstances or the best. Either way, it is very good.

The Drop – Film Four – 11.05pm

In our pick for this evening, a barman (Tom Hardy) in Brooklyn becomes entangled in an investigation after the mafia-run bar where he works is robbed.

Penned by Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River writer Dennis Lehane and featuring a great cast of character actors including Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini in his final film role, The Drop has such a strong atmosphere and sense of place that viewers can’t help but get sucked into its twisty story.

Van Wilder: Party Liason – Comedy Central – 11.20pm

Before he was Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds starred in this comedy as a seventh-year senior in college whose life goal is to party and help undergrads succeed in the future.
