Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 18 October) is The Delinquent Season, the feature directorial debut of acclaimed Irish writer Mark O'Rowe (Intermission, Normal People).
The 2017 drama tells the story of two married couples in Dublin. These are Danielle (Eva Birthistle, Bad Sisters) and Jim (Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer), as well as Chris (Andrew Scott, Ripley) and Yvonne (Catherine Walker, A Dark Song).
At first, both couples seem to be living in marital bliss. Yet, cracks soon appear in the seemingly steady marriages.
"When Chris’s behaviour begins to change, Yvonne seeks solace in the arms of Jim, and before long they are in the midst of an affair," the plot synopsis reads.
Aided by its brilliant cast, including Lydia McGuinness (Kissing Candice) in a key supporting role, The Delinquent Season is a compelling, haunting portrait of marriage, ennui and desire.
The movie is airing on TV tonight on RTÉ2 at 11.10pm. It is also available to buy on Apple TV.
