The '90s film was also recently added to Netflix.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 14 July) is The Fan, the 1996 sports-focused psychological thriller starring two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro (The Godfather II, Taxi Driver).

The story follows Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes, Blade), a star baseball player, who becomes the unhealthy focus of Gil Renard (De Niro), a down-on-his-luck knife salesman.

"As Renard's personal life continues to crumble, he begins obsessively tracking Rayburn, leading to kidnapping and even murder," the plot synopsis adds.

Watch the trailer for The Fan right here:

Directed with flashy style by the great Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Top Gun, True Romance), The Fan also features amongst its cast Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Ellen Barkin (Sea of Love), Jack Black (School of Rock), and John Leguizamo (John Wick).

Though the film was a commercial and critical disappointment upon release, its talented cast and crew and its entertaining sports twist on classic stalker thrillers like Fatal Attraction, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, and Single White Female make it worth seeking out.

The Fan is airing on TV tonight on the channel Legend Xtra at 9pm. The movie is also streaming on Netflix.
