The Housemaid, one of the biggest thriller movies of recent years, has just been added to Prime Video.
The film stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Reality) as Millie, a woman with a dark past who thinks her luck has turned when she is hired as a live-in maid for the wealthy married couple, Andrew and Nina Winchester (Brandon Sklenar and Amanda Seyfried).
But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous. In the Winchesters' home, "perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems".
Directed by Paul Feig (A Simple Favour, Bridesmaids), the movie is an adaptation of Freida McFadden's 2022 novel of the same name. The book was a massive bestseller that spent over 160 weeks on The New York Times trade paperback best-seller list.
We here at JOE were big fans of the film version of The Housemaid. We loved its three lead performances (particularly the go-for-broke, fearless turn by Seyfried), its deliberately off-kilter and disorienting direction, its twists, and its immensely satisfying ending.
It was also a surprise hit at the box office, grossing $400 million on a $35 million budget upon its release last December.
In fact, a sequel - titled The Housemaid's Secret - has already been greenlit, with Feig and Sweeney returning.
