‘Oh this season is going to hurt… a lot.’
The first trailer has landed for season two of The Last of Us, and it looks like fans are going to be put through the wringer again.
The first season of The Last of Us was a huge success upon its release in 2023. Adapted from the acclaimed 2013 video game, the series was a hit with critics and audiences alike.
From the brilliant casting of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie to the incredible action scenes and story-telling, it was easily one of the best shows of the year.
Now, we’ve finally got the first full trailer for season two of the HBO show. This will follow the events of the second game, The Last of Us Part II, which deals with the fallout from Joel’s actions at the end of season one.
You can watch it below.
In the trailer, we see some new additions to the cast, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, who is expected to play a big role in the series, and Catherine O’Hara, who is playing an as-yet-unnamed character but based on the trailer seems to be a therapist that Joel confesses his actions to.
Jeffrey Wright will also be reprising his role from the games as mysterious WLF leader Isaac.
The official description for season two reads: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
When it came out in 2020, The Last of Us Part II was arguably a bigger success than its predecessor, receiving universal acclaim, However, it did receive some controversy for its violence and mature themes.
So, if you’ve not played the games but loved the series, be warned – The Last of Us season two will probably put you through the emotional wringer even more than the first season did.
Game fans seemed to be more than aware of this, with one person commenting underneath the trailer: “Oh this season is going to hurt…a lot.”
Another said: “Lots of pain incoming… but I’m ready to do it all over again.”
A third wrote: “I hate that this teaser isn’t just teasing the show but literally teasing at the emotions I felt during the game. 100% like ‘You remember this? You remember what happens next don’t you? You remember how it felt? You wanna feel it again?'”
The Last of Us season 2 is scheduled to be arrive in 2025. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed.
