An Irish Oscar-winner is among this week’s guests…

Friday night is around the corner, meaning everyone’s favourite programme The Late Late Show returns to screens.

And in the run-up to this week’s episode, RTÉ has unveiled the special guests that will be making an appearance.

Leading the line-up is Irish actress and Oscar-winner Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot), who will discuss with host Ryan Tubridy her recent turn in the TV adaptation of Graham Norton’s novel Holding, as well as working on her memoir.

Also on the show will be Mrs Brown’s Boys actress Fiona O’Carroll and former Miss Ireland Pamela Uba.

The pair will talk about why they wanted to face their fears by signing up to be part of this year’s Ultimate Hell Week: The Professionals.

On the sporting side, Ryan will meet the Irish Rugby Sevens squad who created history last weekend when they beat Australia to win bronze at the World Cup in Cape Town.

On top of this, renowned baker and owner of 2210 Patisserie Una Leonard will recount how discovering a love of baking helped to save her life, while historian Michael B. Barry and photographer John O’Byrne will showcase their new book The Irish Civil War in Colour by showing a series of colourised photographs from it.

Meanwhile, it would not be the Late Late if there wasn’t a musical guest, with Westmeath rockers The Academic returning to the show to perform their track ‘Don’t Take it Personally’.

This week’s Late Late airs on RTÉ One on Friday, 16 September at 9.35pm.
