Shot in Ireland, the film is a modern classic, in our opinion.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (Bugonia, The Favourite, Poor Things), the film takes place in a dystopia where being single as an adult is outlawed.

As such, bachelors and bachelorettes are forced to stay together at The Hotel, where they must find a mate within 45 days. If any of the singles fail to accomplish this, they will be transformed into an animal of their choice.

Farrell plays David in the movie, a man who is newly single after his wife left him for another man.

Taken to one of these hotels to find a romantic partner, he is set on becoming a lobster should he fail.

Alongside Farrell, the ensemble cast of The Lobster includes Ben Whishaw, John C. Reilly, Léa Seydoux, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz.

The film was also shot in Ireland, while Irish company Element Pictures produced the movie.

The Lobster works on two levels. You can enjoy it as a widely imaginative, strange and surprising movie, one that makes for an unforgettable watch just because of how odd it is.

But if you lean in, it's also a great satire about dating, relationships, and how society views single people.

For example, as you watch David take part in several weird and arbitrary rituals in an effort to find a partner, you may start to ponder how weird and arbitrary our real-life dating customs are.

Anchored by a hilariously deadpan, heartbreaking, and transformational lead turn by Farrell, and boasting one of the most simultaneously beautiful and haunting endings we've ever seen, The Lobster holds an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 12.45am. It will also be available to stream on Channel 4's website from Thursday, 21 May.
