A legendary Western movie is airing on TV tonight

It was the final completed film of two Hollywood icons.

The film follows Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe), a recently divorced dancer, who meets an ageing cowboy-turned-gambler named Gay Langland (Clark Gable) and a former World War II aviator named Guido Racanelli (Eli Wallach).

"The two men instantly become infatuated with Roslyn and, on a whim, the three decide to move into Guido's half-finished desert home together," the plot synopsis reads.

"When grizzled ex-rodeo rider Perce Howland (Montgomery Clift) arrives, the unlikely foursome strikes up a business capturing wild horses."

Written by Monroe's then-husband, acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller, The Misfits is widely considered a masterpiece and one of the best movies of the 1960s.

In particular, the film has been praised for its performances, its rich characters, its stark black-and-white photography, and how it depicts the fading of the Old West.

The neo-Western is also noteworthy for being the final completed film for both Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe before their deaths.

The Misfits is airing on TV tonight on Sky Arts at 9pm. The movie is also currently streaming on Prime Video, though it is about to leave the service.
