The Odyssey is now the highest-grossing IMAX film of all time

The distinction is a fitting one, because The Odyssey is the first film shot entirely on IMAX film cameras, and the format has been central to the whole enterprise: IMAX tickets went on sale a full year before release.

The adaptation of Homer’s epic poem opened on 17 July and passed $1 billion at the global box office before the end of its first full month in cinemas.

Nolan has again surrounded himself with familiar faces, with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Himesh Patel and Elliot Page all featuring.

For audiences here, the record underlines what has been obvious since release: this is a film built to be seen on the biggest screen you can find.
