Craig Robinson, one of the stars of The US Office, has told JOE that he would be interested in reprising his role of Darryl Philbin in the upcoming spin-off of the show, The Paper.
As JOE previously reported, The Paper will be headlined by Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars) and will be set in the same “stylised comedic” universe as its predecessor.
Instead of focusing on Dunder Mifflin’s now iconic Scranton branch, however, the new sitcom will turn its attention to the staff of a newspaper office.
JOE recently spoke to Craig Robinson, alongside Sam Rockwell, as the pair were promoting their very fun new animated action comedy, The Bad Guys 2. You can read more from that interview here.
During the conversation, though, we had to ask Robinson if he would be checking out The Paper when it premieres on 4 September 2025 and if he'd consider reprising his role as Darryl if he was asked.
He told us:
"I fully expect to check it out. With [The US Office and The Paper creator] Greg Daniels at the helm, it's going to be great.
"And if they want to call Darryl in, see what's going on... Maybe he teaches some lessons from Athlete [the company that Darryl ended up with in The Office] or shows them how to run the warehouse. I don't know, but yeah, I would in a heartbeat.
"Just being on The Office, it's like you got friends everywhere. So, it's been a huge blessing in my life and the way people have connected to the show... sometimes there'll be all these stories: 'I watched this with my mother.' It's so beautiful, so yeah."
Robinson recently made headlines after he announced he was quitting comedy. This was later revealed to be a joke, however, as part of a marketing campaign for telecommunications company AT&T.
When we brought this up to the actor and comedian, he clarified:
"I'm never quitting comedy. That was more of a re-shift in focus, but no, I still have dates and I'm going to honour those and I'm going to keep going.
"I can't walk away from the sport. Can't give up the game."
When we asked if this meant he would be back for a potential Bad Guys 3, he responded: "From your mouth to god's ears. Yeah, if they call me back, I'm definitely coming back for this ride."
