Movies & TV

17th Dec 2017

There’s actually a pretty decent evening of TV ahead

Alan Loughnane

Plenty to choose from…

It was the week before Christmas and all around the country, people were feeling sorry for themselves after going hard at it on Friday and Saturday night.

‘Tis the season of long nights and short days, so if you’re not venturing out this evening, there’s plenty on the TV to pass your time, including the greatest Christmas movie ever made.

Here are some of the highlights…

Ireland’s Fittest Family Final (6.30pm RTÉ One)

One of the most underrated shows on TV at the moment. It’s difficult not together sucked into the competitiveness of it all, or failing that, get annoyed about how much better you’d be able to do than all of the contestants.

The Apprentice (9pm BBC One)

No, it’s not Bill Cullen. It’s Alan Sugar, and it’s also the final. The final of The Apprentice and Ireland’s Fittest Family on the same night, what did we do to deserve this?

Die Hard (10pm Channel 4)

What can we day about this piece of brilliance? John McClane. Hans Gruber. Bruce Willis. Alan Rickman. It’s the perfect movie to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Dermot Bannon’s LA Homes (9.30pm RTÉ One)

Look, we wouldn’t normally include something like this in our TV list, but following on from the incredible success of Room To Improve, we said we’d give it a chance.

Dermot Bannon is primetime in fairness…
